The Avenues Mastery Academy in Innovation and Making pilot program is one part boarding school and one part makerspace. Reminiscent of 15th-century Renaissance studios, it is an academic apprentice-learning model in which up to 10 Avenues students and up to 10 Chinese students from Mingde Experimental School are competitively selected to live and work side-by-side with master teachers and practitioners. Students will be selected based on their desire to learn, overall maturity, collaboration ability and relevant skills. Chinese and experience in China are not required.
No better place in the world exists for students to work on the evolution of the smartphone and delve into the future of manufacturing than Shenzhen. This program begins the month before departure, as participants from New York and Shenzhen audit their own use of technology and prepare for a month of collaborative invention.
